Guidelines for Authors

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online platform. Authors must upload the anonymized PDF file for peer review and, when requested, the corresponding source files prepared using the JAICA LaTeX template.

Submissions must comply with the journal’s formatting, ethical, and editorial requirements. Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned to the authors before peer review.

Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English. Authors are responsible for ensuring the linguistic quality of their submissions before submitting them for editorial consideration.

To maintain consistency in formatting and presentation across published articles, JAICA requires manuscripts to be prepared in LaTeX using the journal’s official Overleaf template.

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts follow the structure, formatting, citation style, and technical requirements provided in the template. Submissions prepared in formats other than LaTeX may be returned to the authors before editorial evaluation.

JAICA publishes scholarly contributions in the following categories:

Original Research Articles (ORA)

Original Research Articles present original scientific research in artificial intelligence, computing, intelligent systems, or related application areas. These manuscripts should include a clear research problem, objectives, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, and references.

A suggested structure is:

• Discussion

Authors may adapt this structure when justified by the nature of the study, provided that the manuscript presents a coherent and rigorous research contribution.

Short Narrative Reviews (SNR)

Short Narrative Reviews synthesize and discuss recent advances, trends, challenges, or emerging topics in artificial intelligence and computing applications. These manuscripts should provide a clear scope, a description of the literature selection approach, a thematic overview, discussion, conclusions, and references.

Applied AI Exploration Papers (AAIEP)

Applied AI Exploration Papers present practical implementations, prototypes, preliminary explorations, or innovative applications of artificial intelligence and computing methods. These manuscripts should describe the problem addressed, the proposed solution, implementation details, preliminary results or evaluation, implications, limitations, and future work.

A suggested structure is:

Math for AI Capsules (MAIC)

Math for AI Capsules are concise scholarly contributions that introduce, explain, or contextualize mathematical concepts with relevance to artificial intelligence and computing applications. These contributions should be brief, focused, and accessible to readers interested in the mathematical foundations of AI.

Critical Perspectives and Position Papers (CPPP)

Critical Perspectives and Position Papers present well-reasoned arguments, critiques, or reflections on emerging or established topics in artificial intelligence and computing. These manuscripts should clearly state a position, support it with evidence or scholarly discussion, and identify implications for research, practice, education, policy, or technological development.

A suggested structure is:

Authors must prepare their manuscripts according to the category under which they intend to submit. Manuscripts should be coherent, well-structured, and aligned with the journal’s scope.

All manuscripts must include:

• Title.
• Abstract.
• Keywords.
• Main text organized according to the manuscript category.
• References in IEEE style.
• Tables and figures, when applicable.
• Declaration of conflicts of interest.
• Funding statement, when applicable.
• Data availability statement, when applicable.
• Artificial intelligence use disclosure, when applicable.

Figures and tables must be clear, readable, and properly numbered. Each figure and table must include a descriptive caption and must be cited in the text. Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have permission to reproduce any material that is not original.

High-resolution figures may be requested after acceptance.

JAICA uses the IEEE citation style. Authors must prepare references according to the format provided in the journal’s LaTeX template.

When available, authors should include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for each reference. Online references should include complete and active links when appropriate.

References must be accurate, complete, relevant, and consistent with the content of the manuscript.

Manuscripts submitted to JAICA must be original and must not be under consideration by another journal, conference proceedings, book, repository-based formal publication venue, or editorial outlet at the same time.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work does not contain plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate text reuse, data fabrication, data falsification, manipulated images, or any other form of academic misconduct.

JAICA may use similarity detection tools and editorial review procedures to verify the originality of submitted manuscripts. The editorial team may examine textual similarity, citation practices, reuse of previously published material, and possible overlap with other works.

If substantial similarity, plagiarism, duplicate submission, or another originality concern is detected, the manuscript may be returned to the authors for clarification, rejected, or handled according to the journal’s publication ethics procedures.

JAICA uses a double-blind peer-review process. Authors’ identities are not disclosed to reviewers, and reviewers’ identities are not disclosed to authors.

Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts are first reviewed by the editorial team to verify:

• Relevance to the journal’s scope.
• Compliance with author guidelines.
• Adequacy of manuscript structure and formatting.
• Originality and absence of evident ethical concerns.
• Suitability for peer review.
• Removal of identifying information from the anonymized review version.

Manuscripts that do not meet these initial requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected without external review.

External Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to expert reviewers with relevant knowledge in the manuscript’s subject area. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript according to academic, methodological, technical, and editorial criteria.

The criteria considered during peer review may include:

• Originality and relevance of the contribution.
• Clarity of the research problem or objective.
• Coherence of the manuscript structure.
• Soundness of the theoretical, methodological, technical, or experimental approach.
• Adequacy of data, materials, implementation, analysis, or evaluation.
• Quality and interpretation of results.
• Discussion of limitations and implications.
• Relevance and currency of references.
• Contribution to artificial intelligence, computing, or related application areas.
• Compliance with ethical and editorial standards.

Editorial Decisions

Based on the reviewers’ reports and the editorial assessment, the decision may be:

• Accept.
• Accept with minor revisions.
• Major revisions required.
• Resubmit for a new round of review.
• Reject.

The editorial team is responsible for the final decision. Reviewer recommendations inform the editorial decision but do not replace editorial responsibility.

Revisions and Review Rounds

Authors who receive a revision decision must submit a revised manuscript and a response to reviewers explaining how each comment was addressed. Revised manuscripts may be evaluated by the editorial team or sent to reviewers for an additional round of review.

More than one review round may be required when necessary to ensure the academic quality and integrity of the manuscript.

Estimated Review Times

The estimated time from submission to the first editorial decision is approximately four to eight weeks, depending on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, and the need for additional editorial assessment.

The total time from submission to acceptance may vary according to the number of revision rounds and the time taken by authors to submit revised versions.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents. They must not share, reproduce, distribute, cite, or use the content of manuscripts under review for personal or professional advantage.

Reviewers must decline a review invitation or notify the editorial team if they identify a real or potential conflict of interest. Editors must also avoid handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

Anonymity Requirements for Double-Blind Review

To preserve the integrity of the double-blind peer-review process, authors must remove identifying information from the PDF submitted for review.

The anonymized manuscript must not include:

• Author names.
• Affiliations.
• Acknowledgments that reveal identity.
• Self-identifying references written in a non-anonymous form.
• Metadata or file information that reveals author identity.

Author information may be provided separately through the journal platform and in the LaTeX source files when requested for post-review processing.

JAICA is committed to academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to follow ethical standards consistent with good practices in scholarly publishing.

The journal does not accept:

• Plagiarism.
• Duplicate or redundant publication.
• Simultaneous submission.
• Data fabrication or falsification.
• Manipulation of images, figures, or results.
• Inappropriate authorship or ghost authorship.
• Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
• Manipulation of citations.
• Misleading or undeclared use of artificial intelligence tools.

When ethical concerns arise, the editorial team may request clarification, supporting documentation, corrections, or additional declarations. Depending on the severity of the case, the manuscript may be rejected, corrected, retracted, or otherwise handled according to the journal’s editorial procedures.

All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the manuscript and must approve the submitted and final versions of the work. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the content.

Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria may be acknowledged when appropriate. Authors must not include individuals who did not contribute substantially to the work.

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, personal, academic, or professional relationship that could influence or be perceived to influence the submitted work.

Reviewers and editors must also declare conflicts of interest and must not participate in the evaluation or decision-making process when such conflicts compromise impartiality.

Authors must disclose all sources of funding, sponsorship, or institutional support related to the research. If the work did not receive specific funding, authors should state this explicitly.

When applicable, authors are encouraged to make data, code, software, protocols, or research materials available in trusted repositories, provided that this does not violate ethical, legal, privacy, confidentiality, or intellectual property restrictions.

Authors should include a data availability statement indicating where supporting materials can be accessed or explaining why they are not publicly available.

JAICA recognizes that artificial intelligence tools may support some stages of scholarly work when used responsibly and transparently. Authors must disclose any substantive use of artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of manuscripts, including the tool used, the purpose of use, and the scope of its contribution.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors, since authorship requires responsibility, accountability, and the ability to approve the final version of the work.

Acceptable uses of artificial intelligence tools may include language editing, grammar checking, code assistance, data exploration support, or formatting assistance, provided that the authors critically review and take full responsibility for the final content.

Unacceptable uses include generating fabricated data, producing misleading analyses, creating false references, obscuring authorship, replacing the authors’ intellectual contribution, or using artificial intelligence tools without disclosure when their use is substantive.

Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or review materials to external artificial intelligence tools unless explicitly authorized by the journal and compatible with confidentiality requirements.

Undisclosed, misleading, or inappropriate use of artificial intelligence tools may be treated as an editorial or ethical concern.

JAICA may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

Corrections may be issued when errors are identified that do not invalidate the main findings. Retractions may be considered in cases involving serious errors, plagiarism, duplicate publication, unreliable findings, unethical research, or other forms of serious misconduct.

Authors, readers, reviewers, and editors may notify the journal of possible errors or ethical concerns. The editorial team will review such cases and determine the appropriate editorial action.

Authors may submit a reasoned appeal when they believe that an editorial decision was based on a misunderstanding, procedural error, or relevant evidence that was not properly considered.

Appeals must be submitted in writing to the editorial contact and must include a clear explanation. The editorial team will review the appeal and may consult additional editors or reviewers when appropriate. The final decision after appeal rests with the editorial team.

JAICA publishes its contents under an open license that supports the dissemination and reuse of scholarly work. The specific license used by the journal must be clearly displayed on the journal website and, when possible, in each published article.

Authors retain responsibility for ensuring that their manuscript does not infringe third-party rights and that any reproduced material has the necessary permission.

JAICA is an open-access, non-commercial journal. All published content is immediately and freely available to readers without subscription, registration, or access fees.

JAICA does not charge:

• Submission fees.
• Article processing charges (APC).
• Publication fees.
• Access fees.
• Subscription fees.

The journal’s operation is supported by its publishing entity, Maikron, Asociación para el Avance de las Aplicaciones Inteligentes y Tecnologías con Impacto Social, A.C., as part of its non-profit mission to promote open scientific knowledge, academic collaboration, and technological development.

Authors may deposit and share their published articles in institutional repositories, disciplinary repositories, personal academic websites, and other non-commercial scholarly platforms.

Authors must cite the published version and include a link to the article on the JAICA website when available.

Unless otherwise stated, authors may share the submitted version, the accepted version, and the published version, provided that the journal source is acknowledged and the applicable license terms are respected.

JAICA is committed to preserving and maintaining long-term access to its published contents. The journal maintains its articles, issues, and editorial information through its online journal management platform and seeks to ensure the continued availability of its published archive.

The journal may implement additional preservation mechanisms, backups, repositories, or archival services to support the long-term accessibility of its contents.

JAICA generates and maintains metadata associated with its published contents to support identification, discovery, citation, indexing, interoperability, and long-term accessibility.

Article metadata may include, when applicable:

• Title.
• Author names.
• Institutional affiliations.
• Country.
• ORCID or other persistent identifiers.
• Abstract.
• Keywords.
• Publication date.
• Volume, issue, and article information.
• References.
• DOI or other persistent identifiers, when available.
• License information.

The journal seeks to make metadata available through its website and publishing platform to facilitate discovery and retrieval of published articles.

After acceptance, authors must provide the final LaTeX source files, bibliography files, figures, tables, and any additional materials required for copyediting, layout, and publication.

The editorial team may request corrections to formatting, references, figures, metadata, declarations, or other publication elements before final publication.
